Absolutely essential in May… if you have no other foliage… for both arranging and garden decoration Euphorbia oblongata is one of my favourite plants to grow from seed!
Light and airy with long strong stems. You can fill anything from Jam Jar’s to large scale arrangements such as Urn’s and Milk Churns.
A short lived perennial gently self sowing into places it can thrive. I use every stem of this brilliant filler flower!
Caution: Toxic if eaten. It is a skin and eye irritant. I wear gloves as a precaution and leave stems to condition in its own bucket of water.
Variety: Euphorbia oblongata
Type: Short-lived Perennial (grown as a Hardy Annual)
Position: Full sun in free draining soil.
Sow: Spring or Autumn
Germination: Up to 30 days
Harvest: at its best in May but flowers until September.
Cutting /Vase Life:
Cut when almost all of the flowers on a stem are open. If harvested much earlier, the stems have a tendency to wilt.
Place flowers straight into ready buckets of water on its own. We rest our stems for a few hours in water, this is called conditioning.
