Nigella ‘African Bride’

Nigella papillosa

Commonly called ‘Love in the mist’…. Nigella ‘African Bride’ is a show stopper! Large pure white flowers with contrasting almost black centres.

Lasting well out of water, Nigella ‘African Bride’ is popular for floristry. Even after the flowers have faded, dramatic seed pods give unique element to arrangements and personal flowers such as Buttonholes.

For the home gardener seeds can be direct sown making them a brilliant easy choice for the beginner. Highly recommended. The patio gardener can grow Nigella in pots.

I find it grows best from an early Autumn or very early Spring sowing. Either in modules or sown direct. For more detailed growing instructions join our ‘Grow Along’ on Instagram

Cutting /Vase Life:
Cut flowers when fully open or use the pods fresh or dried in bouquets; To dry pods, hang upside down in a warm, dry place out of bright light for 2-3 weeks.

Place flowers straight into ready buckets of water. We rest our stems for a few hours in water, this is called conditioning.
