Delicate handkerchief lace flowers late spring and early summer. Orlaya grandiflora is one of our most admired filler flowers in the early Summer garden.
Filling the gap between the earlier blooming: Cow Parsley and Sweet Rocket, before the slightly later Ammi majus and Daucus carota .
Orlaya Grandiflora is ideal for bouquets for us from late May to early July. A mass of lacy white umbels also make a superb garden decoration.
How to Grow:
Sow undercover into individual modules from Autumn to early Spring. Plants need a period of ‘cool weather’ growing to gain size. Protect from extreme cold (can tolerate a light frost). We use fleece and cloche covers if needed. For more detailed growing instructions join our ‘Grow Along’ on Instagram
Variety: Orlaya Grandiflora
Type: Hardy Annual
Position: Full sun in free draining soil.
Sow: Spring or Autumn
Germination: Up to 30 days
Harvest: May/June – July
Seeds per packet: 30
Cutting /Vase Life:
Cut when almost all of the flowers on a stem are open. If harvested much earlier, the stems have a tendency to wilt.
Place flowers straight into ready buckets of water. We rest our stems for a few hours in water, this is called conditioning.
