Strawflower ‘Silvery Rose’

Helichrysum bracteatum

Strawflower ‘Silvery Rose’ is a cool white and frosted with rose at the petal tips. Rose colouring darkens as flowers mature and open, truly lovely!

This is the one I used in the buttonholes on Instagram.

Strawflower’s are so much fun to grow. As well as making handsome garden plants, Strawflowers look superb in arrangements, giving unique texture and you can dry them upside down and use them indefinitely.

Called the ‘Everlasting Flower’ for good reason I can’t help but grow all the colours!

Very easy for the beginner gardener and a must for the Florist! I love Strawflower ‘Silvery Rose’ for Weddings. Brilliant for ‘personal flowers’ as well as arrangements!

How to grow

Frost tender I sow in the Spring. Seed requires light to germinate so do not cover.  For more detailed growing instructions join our ‘Grow Along’ on Instagram

Variety:  Helichrysum bracteatum
Type: Half Hardy Annual
Position: Full sun
Sow: Spring
Germination: Up to 30 days
Height: 90cm
Harvest: June onwards (90 days to maturity)
Seeds per packet: 250 (approx counted by weight)

Cutting /Vase Life:

Pick as soon as the flowers start to open, straight into ready buckets of water for fresh use. We rest our stems for a few hours in water, this is called conditioning. Or hang upside down to keep stems straight to dry.  In floristry its easier to wire flower buds ahead of drying.
